In class today we finished our projects with our groups. We just had to put our finishing touches on our slideshow today. Also we had to cite all the work that we got our information on about Levi's. Another thing we did was make a poster and we made a slogan to go with it. I think we will a pretty good job tomorrow on our presentation. I also think we have enough information enough to present in our project tomorrow. It will be interesting to see how the other groups came along in their slide show. I am looking forward towards tomorrow.

Monday, December 10, 2012

In class today we started working on our projects with our groups. We are finding information about the company Levi. One of the few companies that are still manufactured in the United States. We learned about their history, who founded the company, and some interesting facts about the country. Also we saw the income they make each year. It was quite insightful to learn all the stuff about Levi's today. We are going to put in some more work in tomorrow and hopefully we will have our project ready soon.

In class today we continued watching the movie we saw yesterday, I made mistake yesterday we are watching part three instead of part two. In the movie it said pretty soon more people will be driving in China and there will also be more highways. Three-fourth of the cars they are driving  global companies. Lifan is a Chinese company who is trying to make cars and be the main company in China and hopefully build their cars and send them to other countries around the world. Also I learned that US companies have their factories in China and send the cars to cities and China. Another thing I learned was China is the biggest producer and consumer of steel in the world, the United States use to lead in this.

In class today we watched "The People's Republic of Part 2". It was talking about the new use of transportation they are starting to use more cars. Not everyone is following the rules and regulations either. People will make a u-turn where it's not even safe or they won't drive in the flow of traffic. Also they handle car accidents differently, the cops come on the spot and state the solution and who is at fault or if they both had some responsibility towards the accident. Also, the drivers would honk their horns every thirty seconds. Another thing was, they are learning how to drive at an older age, unlike the United States in their teen years. The people in China usually rode around in bikes so this is a major difference for them. It should be interesting what we are gonna see tomorrow.

Sunday, December 2, 2012

In class Friday we were finished watching "The People's Republic of Capitalism". There was a man from Chongqing  China who moved to Potomac  Maryland to find a cure for AIDS. He was getting paid a good amount of money but decided to go for less to go back to Chongqing  China to work for less pay but will have a bigger work place. If he finds the cure he will get paid a lot of money anyway. Also in the movie when China would talk about the United States they were impressed and vise verse if the United States talk about China. After the movie was over we had a discussion about the movie and everyone could give their own opinion about it.

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

In class today we got into a big discussion about jobs between the United States and China. We wondered if the problem will ever be solved but it's going to continue to happen. The woman in the US was upset she got laid off. On the other hand she is going to Wal - Mart and buying stuff that is made in China. While the seventeen girl in China is saying she isn't getting paid enough but she has to take the factory job because she needs all the money she can get. She feels like the company's are making all the money. It seems like nobody is winning in this situation. This is a serious problem that we have to fix sooner or later.

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

In class today we talked about the economic relation between the United States and China. We could either make stuff in China and make the cost cheaper or we could have jobs in America but the would go up. Company's started taking their factories to China because there is no minimum wage. They could make more money and would have more quantity but it's not like people are China are going against this because everyone is competing for a job. While in the United States, people jobs are taken away  because the factories laid them off. In America they had to pay less people more but the quantity is the same. This is a huge dilemma that is going on right now.

Monday, November 26, 2012

In class today we talked about how we are going to have an assembly tomorrow about Gerry Sandusky with a "G" is coming to our school. He is the news reporter for WBAL for sports. He travels with the Baltimore Ravens to every game they play. Tomorrow he is going to talk about how the other Sandusky gave him a bad name and he didn't even do anything. People are getting confused with the Jerry Sandusky that is in prison. After we finished discussing about that we watch a documentary called "The Peoples Republic Of Capitalism" In the movie it said that the kids in China are competing for jobs from people in the United States and China. It also said that our economic future is linked with China. Another fact is that there are one and half million construction workers, men get paid 4 dollars a day and women get paid 3 dollars a day. A lot of these things take place in Chongqing, China, we will watch more of the video tomorrow.

Reviewing the Test

In class today we got our test back on the Political Leaders. I received an eighty percent, I am not surprised by the grade, this is what I expected. I had a little trouble on the back. I learned that Angela Merkel who is the president of Germany is the fourth most powerful president in the world because the economy is strong in her country. Also Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz has 13 wives and at the least 35 children. We got into a discussion about Cuba and the history they have with the United States and we learned about the Cold War between The USA and Russia. After we finished reviewing the test class was over and we were going to our next class.

Sunday, November 11, 2012

In class Friday, we took a test on the Political Leaders, we had the whole class to take it. The front of the test was easy, but the back was kind of challenging. Overall I think I did good on the test, I think I only got a few answers wrong. Once we finished we could catch up on our work in other classes. During the end of class there was there was only like one person ready so we just packed up our stuff and we went to our next class when the bell rang.

Wednesday, November 7, 2012

In class today I introduced my shadow to the class and then we went over the presidents a little more. We were trying to see if anybody had new facts we haven't heard yet. I talked about the Hu Jintao and how he has done a lot of things as a teenager before he was the president of China. Then we were talking about how China is getting a new president but they don't vote like the United States, they use a different method. then we started talking about the way we vote and you can have the popular vote but it doesn't matter if you don't get the 270 electoral votes. We were also trying to see how close it was in Florida and how many people voted. We couldn't find it but later on Mr. Schick told me the number of people who voted in Florida. This pretty much wraps up everything we did in Human Geo today.

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

In class today we got our quiz that we took yesterday, I received a 22/26. We reviewed who the president is for each country. After that we talked about our blogs we did yesterday. We had to give two interesting facts about each president then find the country on the globe under five seconds. I learned that Dilma Rouseff believes in abortion but only when the woman is raped. Also I learned David Cameron is the second youngest president in the United Kingdom for two centuries. Another one was Hugo Chavez was diagnosed with colon cancer. Francais Hollande wants the troops to leave Afghanistan because of the war. I learned a lot of interesting facts doing the presidents and it gives you a different insight about the presidents around the world

In class Friday we reviewed the test that we had a week ago. On the test I received an eighty six percent. I just made minor mistakes when I was taking the test that day. Other than that I think I did pretty well on the test. We had to answer questions about the five religions we learned and also we had to answer some questions about discovering America. Also, we had to answer questions about the elements of a culture. All questions were multiple choice and we knew what to study since we helped make the test. After we finished reviewing the test we talked about the blog we had to do about the weekend and we revised it and we have to post the new one this weekend. After that class was over and we went to our next class.

Questions For Test

In class today we were discussing good questions for the test that we would be taking Friday. We had to give a question and then tell us the answer to see if it would be a legit question for the test. For instance, one question was what are the three Abrahamic religions? The three Abrahamic religions are Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Another question was what percent of India practice Hinduism and eighty percent of India are Hindu. There were a few trick questions like, is Buddhism monotheistic or polytheistic and it is neither polytheistic or monotheistic. Another one was, what was the name of the person who executed Christians but found the holy spirit and started spreading the word and changed his name. That would be Saul and once he found God he changed his name to Paul. There were a lot of good questions but I just named a few.

Monday, October 22, 2012

On Friday we learned about he different religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism  We already went over Islam and Christianity  we only had to learn about three more religions. We learned about Buddhism, the central figure is Siddhartha Gautama. It is not monotheistic or polytheistic, it doesn't have a holy book either, it has Four Noble Truths. We also learned about Hinduism  they do not claim one prophet. Also eighty percent of the people in India follow this religion. That last religion we learned about was Judaism, their sacred books are the Talmud and the Torah. They are waiting for the prophet to come to earth. Judaism is the oldest monotheistic religion. After that class I learned a lot of insightful things about religions and it made me have a different prescriptive about different religions.

Monday, October 15, 2012

In class today we wrote some more notes on Cultural Geography. We got some stuff down on ethnic heritage, for example the United States and Switzerland have merged ethnic groups peacefully  Also Korea and Japan have primarily one ethnic group. Another example of ethnic heritage is in Africa where the tutsis and the hutus try to dominate each other. We also got into the religions and the five main religions are Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, and Islam. We got into a big discussion about Christianity and how Jesus Christ is the central figure. We talked about what he did on the earth. The thing that separate Jesus from everybody else is that he died on the cross and rose from the dead and saved us from our sins. He also performed many more miracles on this earth  He was the only person to live a perfect life. It almost became a religion class.

Religions

Christianity was founded in Palestine around the beginning of 1 AD. It is monotheistic they only believe in one God. Yes they have a book that they follow and it is called The Holy Bible. Thirty-three percent of the world believes in the Christian faith. Jesus is the central figure for this religion because God made himself in a human form. Came on the earth and lived a perfect life and then died on the cross for our sins. This mostly takes place in the Middle East.
The Islamic faith was founded in Mecca and Saudi Arabia about 622 BCE. They only worship one God so they are monotheistic. The book that they use as their guide is called the Qur’an. 1.3 billion People believe in the Islamic faith. Muhammad was spreading the word to people about the one and true God to a polytheistic world. The geographical Concentration is in Mecca. Buddhism was founded in the location of Northeastern India in 520 BCE.
Buddhism is a polytheistic culture. The book that Buddhist follows is called Tipitaka.  About 360 million people follow the religion Buddhism. Buddha is the central for this religion even though there are other gods. Many people from China, Korea, and Japan believe in Buddhism.  Hinduism was founded in India 1500 BCE.
Hinduism is also a polytheistic religion. The sacred texts are Vedas, Upanishads, Sutras, and Bhagavad Gita. 900 million people believe or worship the Hindu faith. Belief about a God or gods is not the essential. People in India, United Kingdom, and the United States.
Judaism was founded in Mesopotamia around 1300 BC. Like the Christina faith it is also monotheistic. The text that they use is Tanakh with the Talmud. 14 million people believe in Judaism. Their god is Yahweh which is their one and only God. Most of these people practice this religion in Israel, Europe and USA.

Thursday, October 11, 2012

I wasn't in class today because I went to the hospital to visit a relative.

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

In class today we took notes on "Cultural Geography." There are three man points in cultural geography, they are language, religion and ethnic heritage. Today we started talking about languages, today I learned that English is the world language especially for businesses. Also Spanish unites the Hispanic world. Also, Switzerland has many different languages and they still keep peace in the region. After that we got into ethnic heritages,Yugoslavia had many ethnic groups. Once they people in charged died out there was a civil war and they went to separate countries. We also talked about how diverse the United States are. The United States is known to be called a "tossed salad." Tomorrow we will get into religion and take a few notes about that.

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

In class today we went over the power points that we worked on yesterday.  My group did the Native Americans and we went first. We talked about how they were first people here in the Americas. They came from Asia to Alaska using the Bering Strait about twelve thousand t o seventeen thousands years ago. They were fighting to keep their land but eventually they lost it. Another group came up and did the Vikings. They were the second group to make it to North America. They didn't stay for long because it wasn't working out for them and they were having problems with the natives. Also the Europeans came to North America last and they liked what they saw and they took over the land. They brought more and more people to come. They used threes ships to get here at first and they are the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria.

Monday, October 8, 2012

In class we today we got our results from our test that we took Friday about the movie "God Grew Tired of Us". On the test i received a ninety percent, I only missed two problems. Other than that I was fine with the test. Then we went over the test and I fixed the problems I got wrong. After we went over the test we started talking about Columbus Day and talked about what Columbus really founded. Then we went into three groups, they were about the Native Americans, The Vikings and the Europeans. Each group has to make a power point and give information and give specific information depending what group you chose. We worked with this until the end of the class and after that class was over and we would go to our next class.

Saturday, October 6, 2012

On Friday in class we took a test on "God Grew Tired of Us." Overall the test wasn't that bad, there was just a few problems I had a little trouble with. It also helped that we could use our blogs as a reference for the test. If you wrote good blogs then test was pretty easy but if you didn't you were going to have some problems. After the test class was almost over so we were just waiting for the bell to ring. I think I did pretty good on the test so I'm not to worried about it. I think that I was well prepared for it too. We are going to do something to help the people on Sudan and then after that we will get into our unit and we will work from there. That is what we are going to do Monday.

Wednesday, October 3, 2012

In class we were trying to cut down the foundations so we could help a certain one. It was kind of hard because the ones that we found were all pretty helpful to the people that are less fortunate in Africa. We were trying to see if John would visit the school but it is  lot of money so we were trying to see if we could do something else to help him. Also we looked at Panther's foundation to build the school in Africa. we were also trying to see if could come to the school so Mr. Schick said he would look into that. We also were looking at this foundation that john supported. There were a few more we talked about but I just wanted to name a few. All the ones we talked about today were very good and we could use anyone one of those.

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

In class we are taking an intuitive to do something about the stuff going on in Syria. Earlier we were looking for foundations that look safe to use. My group found a couple like the one Panther is using to build a school in his home land. Another one we found was the one John had, he was raising money too. Some other groups found places to donate money too. We also wondered if John would come to our school and speak but we would have to raise a couple thousand dollars to do so. Overall we are trying to do something that will help the people in Africa. If we all work together we can all make a difference and help the people in Syria.

Monday, October 1, 2012

Today we finally finished the movie "God Grew Tired of Us." Each person had a different outcome at the end. John Dau was pretty happy at the end of the movie. After seventeen years he finally got to see his mother again. They were both flooded with tears when they saw each other. He also went across the United States to tell people about the civil war in Syria. At the end, they even said that he is trying to build a medical clinic. He still feels like he has to give back to his homeland. Panther, gets married and goes back to Africa for a little bit. He also got a degree in Economics. Also he is trying to build a school for the kids that live where he used to be. Daniel is taking classes at a community college and is still searching for his family. The guys are just thankful they had the opportunity to come to America and all three of them are trying to take full advantage of it. They guys have been through many trials and tribulations and it's nice to see that they are trying to make their lives better for themselves and for the people in Africa.

Saturday, September 29, 2012

On Friday,  we continued watching the documentary "God Grew Tired of Us." They are still adjusting to the life in the United States. They don't see each other as much because they are working jobs and are at school. They feel very lonely because they don't get to hang around each other like they did before. Some of them even had problems with the law. They would wake up early and work really late and get like four hours of sleep and do that routine over and over again. John found where his family is and put school on hold so he could work so he can have enough money for them to come to the United States. He is trying to get his mother and sister to come to the states first. The guys that are in America are giving money to the people in Africa with the little money they have. They still remember where they came from and are trying to give back.

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

In the movie "God Grew Tired of Us" they were on the plane they were headed to America. They really are trying to adjust to what it is like in the United States. When they were eating they ate the butter packs separately from the meal. Once they get to the states they are blessed they made it here but they still remember the people back in Africa and they will never forget about them. They have been through stuff that is unimaginable.  It made them mature much faster. That is why they are trying to do something for the people back home. They have three months to find a job but now they are being helped by the state. The United Nations re just try to get them on their two feet. We are going to keep watching it Friday. I really like this documentary we are watching.

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

In class today we got our results from our test. On the test I received a ninety four. I prepared for it just like Dr. Hrabowski said to do in his speech. I listen to his advice and he gave pretty insightful information. I only got a few problems wrong but I made sure I corrected my mistakes so I know the right answers in case they are on the final exam. After we went over the answers on the test we went back to the movie we saw yesterday. This video still has me shell-shocked and it is very interesting to me. The boys are happy they are headed to America but sad the people they are leaving behind. It's kind of a bitter sweet moment. They have no idea what it's going to be like. They don't realize the different fields of jobs we have.

Monday, September 24, 2012

Today in class we did various things. First, we did the test on what we learned so far during the school year. I felt that I did well on the test because I prepared for it and studied. After everyone finished their test we watched this movie called "God Grew Tired of Us". The movie takes place in Sudan and it's during the civil war there. The boys were forced to leave because they would get killed at any age. 27,000 boys left, by the time they made it to Kenya there was only twelve thousand of them when they made it to Kenya. After ten years the United States decided to take some of the boys to the states. They are very excited about starting a new life. They never used electricity or didn't even know what an apartment was. This just made me think how thankful I should be and I am truly blessed.

Around the World

In class our groups were finishing up our project so we could present them to the class. After we did our finishing touches on our power points we started presenting them to the class. The first power point was about Italy. Italy is a well established country and they have quite a few people who are trying to get into the country. We saw how they were compare to the other countries. Their life expectancy is ranked eleventh in the world. Another country we learned about was Nigeria, it is a developing country. The birth rate of Nigeria is very high and the life expectancy is very low. Not to many people leave the country because they can't afford to leave the country. Right after that we were about to get into another class but the bell rang. When my group goes up we will be giving information about the country Indonesia.

To Many People

In class we took notes on population and migration. We wrote down different definitions like the Rate of Natural Increase and how the world is growing at a rapid pace. We also talked about the total fertility rate and it has to average out to be 2.1 for the population to stay the same. Also, we talked about life expectancy and how that women usually lived longer than men. We said that men usually do more dangerous jobs. Men don't really go to the doctors like women do, and also women usually stay home to help out their children. We also had to take notes on immigration and emigration , people leave the country because of push factors and will go to another country for pull factors. A lot of people come to America for various reasons but not as many people come because our economy isn't like it used to be. Here are just a few notes that we took in class.

Class Discussion

In class we had a discussion about the video on YouTube called “Did You Know?” One subject we talked about was Internet dating and how 1 of 8 couples met each other online. For one I would never do that because it seems like it is unsafe. You do not know who you are talking to and it could be anybody, they could be lying about their age. We also talked about how they prepare jobs for jobs that aren’t even invented. For instance, the I pad came out a few years ago and someone has to be prepared to do the job. We also talked about how people are buying the newest inventions more and it’s taking less time to get it. It took three years. It only took three years for fifty million people to have an I pod. We also wondered what a super computer will be like. Overall it was a good class discussion and we should have them more often.

You Learn Something New Everyday

Today in class we reviewed some of the questions from the world factbook. We talked about the HIV/Aids death rate and how it is a huge problem in Africa. Nine of the top ten countries were from Africa and the other country was India who was in the top ten for the HIV/Aids death rate. Also we talked about how the population of the world is up to seven million now. The world is always increasing and never decreasing. Do we even know if we have enough natural resources for everyone to use.  After we finished reviewing the world factbook we watched this video on YouTube called "Did You Know?" It had some pretty interesting facts, for example it said that China will be the number one speaking English country. Also in India there are more honor students than kids in America. Another interesting fact was that in 2049 there will be a super computer that is smarter than the whole human human species. All the facts were very interesting to me.

A Day to Remember

In class today we went over the factbook worksheet. We went over the the questions to make sure all of our answers were right. Then for a little bit we started talking about 9-11 since today is the is the eleventh anniversary. We talked about how it changed the United States as a whole. It just changed how we did things in our everyday life, from the airports to concerts. When I talk to people about it they say they can remember it like it was yesterday and remember what they were doing while it happened. After we got off that topic we went back to answering questions from the world factbook. One thing I was curious about was how we imported the most oil but we pay a lot of money for gas. Also why do we get so many stuff from China but there isn't a lot stuff made from the United States. After we finished the world factbook we just were getting ready for the next mod we had after Human Geo.
